London Irish and Brian Smith part company
Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the London Irish have confirmed that Director of Rugby Brian Smith will leave the club with immediate effect and not wait till the end of the season.
Smith, a former attack coach for the England national team, was named as the coach of the side following the fallout from the sensational dumping of Martin Johnson’s England at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand four years ago and he was expected to hold on to the reins of the club till the summer when he was due to return to his native in Australia.
However, the club has now decided that it needs to make plans ahead of the new season and has asked Smith to vacate his desk immediately. Bob Casey, a former skipper who played at lock for the London Irish almost a decade back under Smith has been put in caretaker charge at the club and he has also been put in charge of working behind the scene to identify a replacement for the departing head coach. London Irish Going Into European Cup
London Irish and Cardiff Blues have both won the Challenge Cups twice in the opening. They did defeat Grenoble, the French side and Rovigo Italians. It was then left for the showdown to be the deciding factor between the two. Quarter finals will witness the five teams of the winners of pool joined with the runner up of best of three. The recruit from the side of Kiwi, Gareth Anscombe has been given the green signal as far as fitness is concerned for the Blues.
Sam Warburton, the skipper of Wales is going to miss out due to injury. Anscombe has been declared fit to take part. After the Aviva Premiership, London Irish has had three changes as Scarlet Andrew Fenby is supposedly at the full back, Eion Griffin has come up in the centre and Topsy Ojo is on the wing. As far as forms of both the teams are concerned they are at par with each other and so far out of the nine matches of the league they have won only two. In Europe their record is unmatchable. Winning and losing are part of the game but to stick and maintain the position is credible.
There is focus on many individual players of both the teams. There is mobility in both the teams. Dan Braid is the man in form for London Irish. Cardiff Blue director states that they want to carry on with their form. The spirits of both the teams are high. Blues consider their game with London Irish to be significant. The director of London Irish has made several changes to their team. The teams have changed their tactics to suit the needs of the game and both are also working on their drawbacks. The line up looks strong and compact of both the sides.
